How damaging is oil overfill?
The asshats at the dealership apparently over filled the oil on my V6 during the regularly scheduled maintenance. The oil level is at the plastic ball on the V6 dipstick.
The car brochure says do not overfill because the oil may go into the breather crank and damge the catalytic converter. I really can't take it back to the dealership because the service dept is closed this weekend.
Maybe I'm being ****, but the car is sort of new and I really want to take good care of the engine.

not sure how high that is, but i'd tell the d!p****s to drain my oil and try again
or make sure they add a memo on your service that they overfilled it in case your cat hollows out....my .02

Re: How damaging is oil overfill?
I don't have the V6, but the dealer has filled the oil way above the high mark on my car at every service interval. My guess is that the max amount they have in the manual is below the actual amount that will cause damage. Also, if they filled it high enough to cause damage, you'd probably notice it fairly quickly; it wouldn't cause any long-term wear.

They did it to me a second time.
After I having gone through some arm twisting to have them drain and refill today, I now see they overfilled it this second time around. I give up trying to get it right with these morons.
When I bought the car, the oil level was between max and min. Plus, the manual states not to overfill because it with go into the breather crank and damage the catalytic converter.
Maybe I'm being ****, but I didn't think there would be difficulty in getting the oil level correctly. Appearantly the dealership can't get it right on the first and second try.

These guys are really asshats.
First when I brought the car back and informed them the oil was overfill, the moron receptionist says "Are you sure? Our techs wouldn't do something like that. Maybe it is suppose to be that way?..What do you mean?" I could tell she had no idea what was meant by oil overfill. We're talking 100% pure bimbo here.
So after I show a technician the dipstick, he starts saying its fine and that it needs to be checked when the engine is cool. I told him the manual says it's not OK and I did check it cold over the weekend. He ended up changing the oil, but only after some arm twisting.
In the end, the kicker to the story is that I just checked it and again it's definitley overfilled. This is the second time. I give up with them.
The car was purchased with the oil level between min and max, so I don't know why they are having such a difficult time getting it within that range again. I think they just don't care.
