Default How many flat tires have you had with 45-series tires?

I have had 2 in 10 months both split sidewalls that couldn't be repaired. I now have to replace all 4 since there would be too big a difference between the worn and the new. I just bought the plan at Discount tire that would replace the tire if this happens again and give me a credit for the remaining life of the other 3 tires if they needed to be replaced. Seems like a good deal to me since the charge was 13% of the price of the tire so if this happens again and i need to replace the tire with more than 1/8 life remaining i should be better off. And I avoid the frustration of having to replace good tires.

Default mostly depends on how dirty the roads are where you drive...

Profile of the tire doesn't really matter.

When I lived in NJ, the roads I drove on and the parking lot at my workplace was so dirty (all kinds of debris incl. glass, nails, bolts, etc.), I was getting flat tires all the time, and the tires were 195/65/14. Some of them resulted in split sidewalls (tires had to be replaced), and some were fixable.

Here in noVA, I have not gotten a single flat yet (knock on wood!), and I've put on about 40K miles during the last 3 years here on various tires, including over 10K miles on 45-series tires.

Seems like that road gremlin plan would be a good idea for you.

Which tire did you specifically put on and what problems are you having? E-Mail me if you would like.

Default 15k and None for me but look at tire pressure

My dads BMW has 225/45-17 and has had 2 blow outs. the tire pressure. The tires are low and cutting the side walls. That was his problem

Default Flat tires, what are those?

Seriously, the last flat tire I had was over 15 years ago, driving a beater Dodge Dart with retreads. Got a couple flats there. Never had a flat since then, not with my Audi's 45 series for the past 4 months nor with my former car's 50 series for the 8 years before that.

Are you following metal recycling trucks with holes in the bottom or what? I hit plenty of potholes, occasionally drive on gravel roads, etc. so it isn't like I'm careful. I wouldn't even consider having a spare tire to be a requirement for a car I buy, if I got more trunkroom in exchange for no spare I wouldn't mind, there's always roadside assistance, and I figure my chance of needing to call for some sort of mechanical or electrical breakdown (or even running out of gas if the gauge gets stuck) is higher than my chance of ever getting another flat.

with lower profile it is easier to pinch the tire against the rim and cut the sidewall
