I am at 6k and was concerned as you are.=called dealer and they highly recommend waiting till 10k.Apparently they claim Audi has additive in initial oil fill that assists engine in "breaking in". Don't jeopardize your warranty !

Default Moi. Changed with 5W 40 Valvoline Synthetic for 10K today. Will change at 5k from here on out.

Only needed to add 1 quart during the initial 10K period. I figured that I would honor the break-in gods, then change at an interval that would be fail safe rather than economical. Even Synthetic is cheap insurance at 5K intervals. I'll use Audi's free service as per Audi schedule; do it myself in between.

Default What did you use for adding before first change?

Synthetic or conventional? What grade?

Default i followed the recommendation

I don't think Audi would recommend 10k just to save money on the oil change. I believe that the oil is actually different and aids in break-in. I used synthetic just to be safe. Seems like cheap insurance to me.
