How often to change synthetic oil?

Every 10K miles (as it states in the service manual).
If you are using a high quality, full synthetic oil, that meets VW502.00, VW503.01... then you're fine with following manufacturers OCI service schedule. Just be sure to check your oil level once a week (especially in the 1.8t). I use and recommend Motul 8100 E-tech 0W-40 or their 300V 5W-40.
I've been doing extended drains of 8-12K miles in my VW/Audi 1.8t's for 8 years and over 225K miles combined. Its' no problem with a good synth oil. If you insist on Jiffy Lube mentality changes of every 5K miles, then you don't need such a great oil. Why do twice the number of oil changes when it is not necessary?
And get the larger oil filter if you haven't already, or own a '04.5 >
