The dealer told me that I have oil leaks around the camadjuster seals and valve cover gasket of my 2004 A4 with 94K miles. I'm puzzled because I replaced the seals/gasket just over one year ago (16K miles ago). Is it normal to have them wear out so quickly?

If you smell oil, then your gasket is probably bad. So the question is why. It was either installed improperly a year ago or as Mike suggestes, there is something causing higher than normal pressure. That is where you need to do some more work to figure out what is going on.

I'm about to tackle this project myself today on my 2000 A6 with 127,000 miles. I only got the outer and inner gaskets without the cam/tensioner seals. I'm hoping that it fixes my oil leak. If not, I'll have to replace those parts as well.
Good luck with yours!

Yesterday the valve cover gasket and cam adjuster seal were replaced. Today it took 4 tries to start the car. The engine stumbled and lost power a few times and the MIL is on steady now. How much of the ignition system gets touched when replacing this gasket and seal?
