How powerful is a non-chipped 1.8T Tiptronic?

I had a 99 Passat with the 150HP 1.8T and Tiptronic. The car was quite slow off the line but adequate on the freeway. How does the Audi 1.8T with Tiptronic compare?

The new models are very efficient and surprisingly fast.

I'll probably still get a chip when all's said and done, but the car certainly doesn't *need* one. I used to drive a Passat also, but I had a 2.8L V6 w/ 4Motion. After test driving the new A4, I'm impressed big time. It's quicker, and it handles MUCH better, even in comparison to the 4M Passat. Don't let the 170 HP fool you. It has more pep than that.
