how tunable is 3.0

im looking at a new car its either a s4 6 speed or a new 3.0 a4 of course the 3.0 would be heavily modded like ko4 maybe? what do you think is there potential. the 3.0 would be stick of course.

It's the clutch that seems to go kaplooey. Problem with that is that it takes a while before manufacturers come up with aftermarket (heavy duty) clutch kits. They typically wait until the market has matured to the point where there are enough cars on the road with more than 50K miles, that could make use of the clutch kits.
Back to your original question, the S4 can be tuned to deliver more power, very cheaply ($2K for chip and exhaust). The 3.0 will have a supercharger kit available from PES tuning. I would expect costs for the supercharger to be around $5K, but I'm GUESSING here.

why not a 1.8T ... a turbo kit would put it in the immediate vicinity of 300hp and you'd have a few bonuses (and minuses to boot)
