Default I called a distributor about the 96 octane Sunoco FR gas - here's what I found out....

See my link below for the original post about this gas. He told me it was recently developed specifically for FIA races in Europe and most of it is being exported for that use. He said the only way to get the stuff was in 55 gal drums. Because it was being made in relativly small batches it is just as expensive as the Sunoco GT100 (100 octane) gas that can be bought at some Sunoco stations. The only way he could get any price break was if he ordered 500+ gallons - and it wasn't much of a break. I asked if any gas taxes would apply since it was not approved for street use. He didn't know much on that front - not to mention he was in a different state. Basically it came down that it would be cheaper to blend your own fuel to get the 96 octane that the FR had. So... 1 gal of 93 octane and 1 gal of 100 octane = 96.5 octane per gallon for a cost of $2/gal for 93 and $5/gal for 100 = $3.50/gal for the blend. I just picked up some octane booster that claims to be able to raise the octane by 15 points - if that claim is right then it should be able to raise 93 to at least 94 octane (the bottle quoted a different and less potent octane scale than what's on the pump so I don't expect to see much of a difference). It cost $3.50/bottle which is good for 1 tank of gas. So if I fill up with 14 gallons @ $2/gal and add the booster it will have cost me $2.25/gal total. I have yet to try the booster, but I don't have much hope that it will give me what I'm looking for. I know I can get 94 octane at some Sunoco stations, I just have to find out which ones in my area. The only other way to get the higher octane is by using Toluene. The cost of Toluene is $9.50/gal. If I put in 13 gallons of 93 and 1 gallon of Toluene then I end up paying about $3.50/gal - same as the 50/50 ratio 93 and 100 octane. But, the octane rating is slightly lower for the toluene - 13 gallons of 93 and 1 gallon of Toluene net a total of 1323 octane divided by 14 = 94.5 octane. So, the toluene turns out the be more expensive than the booster or the 94 pump gas (if I can find it). I hope that this was not too confusing. Any thoughts?

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/654489.phtml</a

Ever wonder who might come knocking at your door if you keep inquiring about 55 gallon drums of gas?

Default Flush this whole idea and just get some toluene.

And, yeah, DEA and EPA will come knocking if you buy 55 gallon drums of either.
