Unless you want to spend $5 on some real "fake"synth, Motorcraft 5w-30 is really synth for $1.50.

Usually I would not mix in plain dino oil with good synth, but I am guessing you are not sure what is in your car now, so you will be fine with the Motorcraft or Havoline. Both are partly HydroCrack processed, same **** most oil companies call "synthetic" at $5/q. M1 5w-40 SUV is my current fav OTC oil, but many grades and brands work in the 1.8t, ALL just need frequent changing. I would change H/C oil 3X a year, top-notch synth 2X a year.
