I have some questions about 2004 A4 1.8t quattro
I've been still looking/deciding what I want to get for a new car:
Audi A4 1.8t quattro
Acura TSX
Acura TL
There is a hot lease deal out for the A4 1.8t quattro right now. $349/mo, total of $1,923 due at start.
A couple concerns:
1) Can that (IMHO) UGLY shark fin be removed/replaced with something beter - I hate it.
2) I need more power than 170hp. Most cars of that size are around 240-270hp (new Acura TL is now 270)
I like the look of A4 1.8t quattro with sport pkg. the best, but it just seems slow.
How much more hp/torque can a chip give? How about replacing the turbo with a larger one?
I saw a cable TV show "superturner TV" where they took an A4 1.8t quattro and replaced the turbo ($2k) and chipped it ($300) and got an extra 100hp - 270hp. How safe/reliable is this and I'm sure the warrenty goes bye bye?

Re: I have some questions about 2004 A4 1.8t quattro
1. You can remove it but it will be costly to have it filled in and the roof repainted. Plus i don't think AoA would appreciate a leased car having the shark fin shaved.
2. chips usually give about 30-35 hp and torque about 50-60 ft lbs.
if you change the turbo anything related to the engine will not be warrantied. Remember the dealer has to show that the mod caused the failure for them to not cover the claim.
The 1.8t can safely handle up to 350 hp. The stock 1.8t is running way below its potential.
BTW all this has been covered in the past so use the search you can find alot more info on all this.

Buy what makes you most happy....
With a lease, you do not want to waste money on aftermarket upgrades IMO, so just get a Sport package and everything else you want.
Not sure about the fin; whether you can remove it.
Personally, I could never bring myself to buy a Honda/Acura. I think my A4 1.8t QMT5 is an incredibly nice car inside/out. However, I do agree about it being severly underpowered for a car in this class/price. A chip/injector/exhaust system, like MTM, will give you; 215 HP - 254 lb/ft @ 4050 RPM. Not bad. With a turbo upgrade kit you can be around 270+/-hp and spend from $2500-$6500 (depending on kit and extra, necessary upgrades, like brake, clutch,...etc). Keep in mind that you'll want a manual tranny to be able to handle extra power.
Have you considered or driven the A4 3.0? More power, but heavier too. Although there is suppose to be a Supercharger from PES for it (295+hp). But about $5K + other stuff you'll need. You could include it in your financing though (up to 110%). Some dealers are more willing to work with that then others.
