I hit a pot hole last nite...now my car is shaking...what can it be?

Could be both, or you could have damaged the belts on your tire.
Best thing to do is to go to a tire shop and have them look-over and rebalance the tire that nailed the pothole. That should solve the problem.
It's probably a good idea to get the car re-aligned after such an impact anyway. If it threw the alignment out, you would probably pull to one side or the other, or you would have weird wear on the tires. An alignment will help make sure that you don't end-up wearing out your tires prematurely due to geometry changes from hitting the pothole.
