I had been observing both of my cars for two weeks now. Most of the time I can drive 16.0L/100km in city and 11.0L/100km on highway.... with the A4 and My ML 320 city around 17.5L/100km and 12L/100Km I am quite surpirse that my M-CLass is actually quite fuel efficent, consider that the A4 is much ligher and is not a SUV.
Both cars are huge Gas Guzzler.... Geez....
hopefully Audi can make their cars more fuel efficent

"hopefully Audi can make their cars more fuel efficent"
Well, I'm very happy with my car fuel efficent (2003 A4 1.8T CVT)
With 16.5~17 gallons, I can drive it for 370~420 miles
Many 3.0 owners are NOT really satisfied with their fuel efficent .. It is not only you!
BTW,
Audi 3.0 quattro tip MPG is 18/26 (city/highway)
BMW 330xi steptronic MPG is 17/25 (city/highway)

I get about 16 mpg in my 3.0...
... but that is mainly short (< 5 mile) trips to work and back. The car runs really inefficiently during those trips (engine is cold, and most of the time is spent idling in traffic).
On the other hand though, if I do just cruise in the city at around 30-40 mph w/o many stop lights, I do approach the stated 18 mpg.
Similarly, on the highway I've seen average MPG as high as 23. Probably could get it up to 25 if I cruised for a couple of hours, but no long road trips yet.
So, yeah, I can see getting the EPA stated mileage in the thing if you just cruise around. Acceleration / idling really kills the fuel efficiency though.
