I own both. I have three V1's (one for each of my cars) and an 8500 that sits in kitchen drawer
I much prefer the V1, although the 8500 is a very good detector. I won't throw out the typical hater comments that don't know anything about the product their bashing. I really prefer the arrows on the V1 over the 8500, and really wish the 8500 had a more functional remote display.
Both are very good detectors, I think it boils down to personal preference and how much you want to spend. I tried to get away with the 8500 and my wifes car (that's why I have it). She made me buy her a V1 because she liked mine to much (I ended up spending more in the long rur ) ;-)
