I think I'm gonna go buy that Valvoline SynPower oil and keep it until my next service.

What oil viscosity do I need to get?

Default 0W-40 or 5W-40 is fine...

But I'm not sure what Valvoline offers with that type. As you know, sometimes the quality/approvals vary between the different viscosities.

The manual said 0W-30, 5W-30, and 5W-40. I bought 5W-30.

Default Whats that mean?

I did some searching, and everyone seems to recommend 5W-40 (even though the manual does say 5W-30 is okay).

I live in the hot Florida climate, and the coldest the car is *ever* started in is 45 degrees. And that's three days a year when the car has been sitting in a parking lot all day (in the mornings, it's been in a relatively warm garage all night).

The hottest it gets around here is 100 or so.

Of course, I figured this all out after I cut out the UPC code and mailed in my rebate (with the original receipt), so now there's no chance in hell of me being able to return it.

Audi Junkie, you seem to be really knowledgeable. Which is better? Rely on the petroleum-based stuff the dealer will put in at the next service, or give them the 5W-30 Valvoline SynPower? What is the difference I would see between 5W-40 and 5W-30? I don't track the car.

Default Is that bad? I figure it's synthetic - gotta be better than the stuff they put in.

It's sitting here on my desk. It'll be free in a few weeks (and I'll have gotten some miles out of the deal, too). I can always not put it in.

It does meet API specifications, though.

Default Apparently, 5W-40 is the stuff to get.

Unfortunately, the gold box on my desk says 5W-30. Damn Audi. I hate our manual. Here I am figuring that since it says 5W-30 before 40 in the manual, 30 is preferable. So that's what I get. Apparently it's not though. So annoying.

Quick Reply: I think I'm gonna go buy that Valvoline SynPower oil and keep it until my next service.
