I think I'm gonna go buy that Valvoline SynPower oil and keep it until my next service.

Easy solution: mix in thick Syntec 5w-50, similar chemistry:Shell XHVI basestock
Most every 30 weight oil in US is on the thin side and shears thinner with use. I'd add a quart of the 50 weight Syntec to the mix thickening it to a high 30 weight, a done-deal. If you don't mind the cost, only 4 quarts for you guys vs 6.5 for me, just use only the Syntec 5w-50 for your hot climate. ~or~ You can forget Gruppe III oils and get the ester/PAO Mobil 1 "SUV" 5w-40. I would not nag you to change it again for a year on the M1 SUV. I am really liking the $3.75/ltr Saab 0w-30 oil, TBN of 17, a newer borate/ester formulation oil. Mobil sells it here as "Mobil 1-R Racing" for >$8!

So are you saying that 5W-40 would be okay if I were able to obtain it?
I called NAPA and they said their distribution center has 6 quarts (that's all I'd need, right?), but they can't be sure until Monday. I was able to return the 5W-30s.

Cool if you are using the rebate still. I used the 40 weight a few times. A basic Euro-grade oil.
Works well though. You only need 4 quarts though. If you get all 6, just mix some 5w-30 with it for "winter", if you have a winter. I would move up in quality. Synpower is like 3/5 stars. M1 0w-40 would be 4/5 stars, imo. Only use the Synpower if you get the 5w-40 or are stuck with 2 leftovers. Do not go 10,000 miles on it though, more like 6-7k.

Alright. After an hour's worth of driving, lots of phone calls,
and probably more gas money than the rebate's worth, I found that my local PepBoys had 3 cases. Just picked one up. All set for the next service, now.

That's why I have cases of oil at home. GC, Saab Synth, Exxon Superflo Semi Synth, Delvac-1/SUV, etc
Next time, all the oil you will ever need in FL is Syntec Blend 10w-40, an ACEA A3 oil(meets specs) Valvoline DuraBlend is good in 10w-40 too. ANY 15w-40 oil will work perfectly. Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15w-40 is the bomb. All are about $2.
