Default A VTEC cam actually has an extra lobe per valve

After a determined RPM the engine will switch to the longer duration, higher lift lobe. An agressive cam is horrible for a street car since you lose low end torque and are stuck with a lopey idle.

VVT can only adjust cam timing.

The new I-VTEC first used in the RSX Type-S uses both.
