Since taking delivery of my 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro I have had a problem with the car that a few others in the forum have also had. Basically when the car is at idle, it stumbles (feels like a misfire, is intermittent and very brief. It basically feels like a jolt in the car).
I took it back to my dealership (Carlsen Audi in Palo Alto) 4 times for this problem and they either 1) didn't ackdowledge the problem, 2) noticed the problem and didn't bother trying to fix it, 3) or just didn't care. Their basic response was, it's probably a problem with the computer that will be fixed in an update from Audi.
Well, I decided to try my luck with Rector Motor Cars in Burlingame (by SFO). My service experience there was just fantastic. By far the best Audi dealership in the Bay Area (and I know, I purchased my first Audi from Anderson Behel and they suck, my current from Carlesn).
Well, Rector noticed the problem (it took them two days to get the problem to reproduce, and once they got it to happen they spend another 4 or so days researching the issue). Working with the Audi Techline and an Audi service rep who was visiting they tried a number of things. In the end they replaced the Engine Control Module, and part # 8E0-909-559-DX and removed the camshaft sensors and cleaned the sensors and contacts.
They kept the car for another day and ensured that the problem didn't happen again. Well I can happily say that the problem is now gone. My car is running very smooth at IDLE and it feels great! I've had this problem for a year and it was really bothering me. I was worried that I would have to live with this problem till my lease was up.
Anyway, if anyone else is having this problem, there is now a documented resolution to this problem that your dealership should be able to reference.
Cheers,
Omar
