One is a huge mega-watt one that is great for soldering small bridges back together. The other is a butane unit which I use alot. I think I got it from my Matco dealer a good 8-9 years ago. Electric ignite etc. It has never failed on me. One of the things I really like about it is it has a plastic cover for the tip end of it. I just pull it off, light it, it gets hot right away, solder what I need, throw the cover back on and I can set it down without worrying about burning anything. Great for interior work since I have no risk of burning carpet or a seat. Same thing if I am using it around the house. I can solder something on the kitchen table and not worry about it. If you are looking for an iron, I can't praise the butane type enough and def look for one with the cover for the end of it.

The one I have is similar to this. Mine is slightly larger but only has one tip, but I have never needed anything more. Look for something with adjustable heat. This way if you have something small you can control it, bigger you have the power to do it.

clicky.

Get a soldering iron, a nice little stand, and a roll of thin solder. This stuff will usually last you a decade. Also find a nice thick piece of metal to use as a table to solder your wires on. Unless you were planning to solder on your fender.
I have this one:

Quality of pro-grade tools in this order is: Snap-On, Matco, Mac. Snap-On stuff will run you the most amount of money, but hands down does make the best stuff. First set of pro-wrenches I bought were Snap-On's 15 years ago. other than my 1/2 inch wrench having some weld marks from accidently laying it on a battery terminal many moons ago, there is no chipping or anything in the chrome. I have never broken or bent one, they fit perfect, I have double wrenched everyone of them thousands of times and they just come back for more. I have a ton of Matco stuff and for the money, it's great stuff. Not quite as nice as Snap-On stuff, but I can stretch the tool dollar a bit more that way and still have good quality stuff. I have very little Mac stuff. Was never trully impressed over all with them. I don't own anything that says Craftsman on it. I really don't like their stuff at all. Ebay is your best bet. Otherwise, www.snapon.com or www.matcotools.com. If you buy quality stuff, you're children's children can pass it down.

after a few uses, the tip of the iron doesnt get hot anymore... the sides only get hot, it was very strange. i've also heard from others that radio shack makes bad ones
