Default If it is true that the Tiptronic can handle at most 228 lb-tq(310 nm) and an APR chip gets it to 229

then does that mean that all we need is a chip and nothing else? or is the APR chip they give us toned down for lesser torque?

If the APR "IS" in fact 229lb-tq... What brand named exhaust can we get without messing up our tranny? Or maybe we should get the EvoMS Intake to lower our power so we can get an exhaust? haha

Default Yeah, that's about it for Tip...

Safety limit is somewhere between 230 to 240 ft. lbs. of torque (more closer to 230). Anything beyond that runs the risk of damage to the transmission. It's a limitaion of having a torque converter on the auto trannys.

If you want to keep inside the safety numbers, then you're basically done. Any aftermarket exhaust will add more torque to your system.

As far as I know, it's the Multitronic (CVT) tranny that is limited by torque restrictions

Default Maybe this complicates things...(I replied to this subject a few posts down) -m-

When PDXAudiboy recently installed the E05 turbo kit on his car, I asked him if Supreme Power had any concerns about the additional power (roughly 260 crank hp) and his Tiptronic tranny. He said Eric@SPP didn't consider it a problem, which I found confusing given the numbers on the ZF website. Of course, PDXs car was totalled soon after so it didn't make a very good long term testbed. BTW, it broke my heart to read that thread.

In the end, I'm inclined to play it safe w/ my Tiptronic especially since many tuners recommend upgrading the clutch for manual tranny A4s w/ higher hp mods.

What if we change the torque converter to handle more?

Default I think it would involve more than just replacing the torque converter...

What you've posted are the numbers on what the tranny can do from ZF, the company that builds them (for Audi and others). My understanding is that there's about a 10% margin of extra torque it can handle.

I have a Wetterauer chip on my 3.0 that puts the torque rating at 241 ft. lbs. That's a bit over the safety limit, but I've been OK so far (10,000+ miles). Since I'm not racing it every waking moment, I'm not really stressing out the transmission like other people would. Sure, I have my occassional launches to near red-line, but nothing more (saving that for my annual weekend on the track).

I feel that anything beyond what I have can spell doom to the transmission unless some mods and/or replacement to tranny components are done.

Default Nice chip! Is that a 1.0 Bar chip? 235 hp and 241 tq sounds better than APR's 196hp 228 tq...(m)

think its better than any other chip? Compared to even GIAC's 208hp and 216lb-tq, that chip sure pumps out a lot of power. So im guessing that a Neuspeed exhaust w/ an APR chip shouldn't read over your TQ reading. It might be about equivalent to your TQ reading, if not, less than. I will most likely get the Evo MS Intake(since there are claims that we loser power) just to lower my power reading, just to be on the safe side and at the same time have a louder turbo sound.
