Default I don't doubt the horror stories, but the one time I really needed it, it saved my butt

The hyrdraulic scissor jack that I used to carry (so I wouldn't have to ever use the OEM one) actually broke after I got the car raised 6 inches. One of the hinge pins just snapped. WTF?

With no other choice and with quite a bit of trepidation, I took out the OEM jack. Not only did it work but I didn't have any problems despite the pavement being sloped and uneven. Go figure.

Default Oh, I've seen the posts w/ the body damage. I'm lucky that it worked. That being said...

Right now I'm trying to figure out a good way of carrying my Craftsman floor jack in my trunk w/o it sliding all over the place. Cargo net isn't quite up to the task.

Default my friend has a good floor jack so I just go to his place whenever I need one...

if it came to needing it on the side of the road well I'd be in trouble, but I wouldn't chance the widow maker

Default If used as instructed in the owners manual, and for emergency use only, ..

the OEM emergency tire change jack is safe and effective. It MUST be placed in the proper location, and situated correctly with respect to the car and the ground. Then it is only used to lift the car just high enough to clear the tire to be changed from the ground. NO higher. When properly placed, the OEM jack will provide a decent approximation of the support that the tire being changed, provides.

Default Is there different load ratings for the stock jack in different Audi vehicles ?

Just curious, say a stock jack for the A8, would it have a higher load rating ?

I have used my stock jacks before without issue...
