Default Ignition Problem Bad coils maybe

I had a code coming up (16685) cyl misfire, I was checking the coil packs on my 2002 audi a4 1.8T. I checked each individual coil for spark while engine was on, i noticed that the engine began to knock and then it died. After putting the coils back the engine will turn on and shake then die. Ive also noticed a smell of gasoline, any ideas?? My codes jumped from 3 codes to 12 after mishap. Maybe i flooeded the engine, do i just wait and trying again later?

Change all 4 coils to "R" versions and call it a day.

Default Bremi or Hitachi?

Are those just upgraded versions of the factory Bremi coils or are we talking about Hitachi's here?

Default Bremi.

I'm not a big fan of Hitachis. I ran them for several months but at the end reinstalled the OEM "R" versions.

My car ran excessively rich with Hitachis and fuel economy was noticeably worse.

I run Bremis due to the consensus of responses I found using the search.

Default car up and running, new belt kit coming soon.

Installed new spark plugs and new r coils. Car starts up and runs great. The knocking noise is still present though, im aproaching 140k so im taking it to the dealership and installing the belt kit with a new water pump, maybe that will solve that. Been thinking about obtaining new knock sensors maybe that helps as well. Dealer is charging 550$ for job seems pretty good to me. Audi dealership is in Mexico though, I live right at the border . Well wish me luck.
