Default sound really depends on the BOX.

there is optimal airspace, minimal airspace, and maximum airspace to think about.

if your box is in the optimal air space category, it should sound good anywhere. If it is in the minimum airspace category, you will want to push it up against the trunk, facing you as your open the trunk. This will produce the best sound.

Hope this helps

It's all about sound staging. Ever seen an opera and how they place the instruments?

Default Bass is omnidirectional so it doesn't really matter

If you fire through the rear seat the foam will act as a baffle and you might lose a bit of volume.

Firing into the trunk and have the ports (if it is a ported box) fire through the rear deck is your best option for volume.

Default that is not true, the reflection of sine waves off the rear and back can have profound effect

depending on speaker, box design, resonant frequency of trunk/car etc...

the omnidirectional part of low frequencies affects the ears lack of ability to pinpoint the exact location of the sound source

Default I was going to bring up the issue of standing waves and reflections

but I didn't think the original poster cared to go into such detail.

90% of the time the sub is reproducing from 80hz and down. For most people sub bass is the runble they want and don't care about the issues you stated.

When you are into competition systems and SPL then the poster should have had a pretty good idea of sound dynamics.

Default just flipping a sub to face up, sideways, backwards can make a very obvious diff in vol and qual

even to the most novice of listeners, this is especially true for avant owners
