GREAT CAR! Loved mine. good luck finding one in good contition - especially a manual...
I traded my 1986 928S in for my first A4 6 years ago and still miss it. That is a Great car - and as the other people have said here it just sounds fantastic (big 32 valve V8)
I would suggest doing a lot of research first. www.928s4vr.com used to be a great place to start, but any Google search is ok.
Also if you happen to be looking at the older ones there are some tricky things to watch for. (for example if you are getting an 86 you want to make sure that is is serial# 1000 or higher *as I recall* that had the HUGE 4 piston Brembo's with ABS in all corners.
Manuals are HAAAARRD to find, but I found one and it was fantastic. But as I understand the automatics are just as much fun. I can remember the one bad habit I picked up driving that car was merging onto highways at 20-30 mph higher than the flow of traffic.
Last piece of advise don't buy this car until you find a mechanic that has (and will) work on this car for you. Even many Porsche mechanics don't know much about them. You want someone with experience and will have to p$y for it. I recall that a timing belt was about $1200 and a tune up was something like $400... so get someone who knows these cars to check it out thoroughly before you buy.
ALSO - get another used Audi with Quattro for the winter.

o yea, fun story: back when i was in high school i got pulled over in it going 100+
got off w/ a 35 dollar fine and no pts (no lawyer, rents never knew)
