Default Impressions of 2004 APR BBQ: Long Write-Up and BWW ^_^

Hey Folks,

I know it's few days late but what can you do when you have to take a vacation for an Audi event and you have to catch up with your work @_@ But I thought it would be better if I wrote something about it now then not writing anything about it to shed some light on fellow B6er's ^_^ Hope you guys and gals enjoy the pics and the write-up ^_^

Overall, 2004 APR BBQ was a very exciting and learning experience as this was the first time I've attended any Audi/VW event this size and magnitude. Rode down with the local Audi club here on Friday morning and got there early Friday evening. That evening, we went out with our Audi peepz and met some other Audier's and had some great time in Opelika ^^ (A Great Fun College Town BTW and alotta of Southern Huneyz ^_^).

Now on to the Good Stuff. Went to APR about 9:00 am in the morning to register for the event. Was given a bag of goodies(?): name tag, APR stickers, and schedule of events and I registered for the raffle ($15/ticket) to win a Stage III Kit for any Audi/VW 1.8T engine ($4,500) value. With it I was given an APR T-Shirt as well. Afterwards, checked out some sick rides: APR Tuned Porsche 996 TT, APR Tuned Evo VIII, APR Tuned RS 6's, APR Tuned blah blah blah you get the idea ^_^

But more than anything whilst snooping around the R&D area, I saw in person the crazy Denim Blue B6 A4 1.8T QT APR Stage III. The car was on dynapak awaiting to be dynoed in about 30 mins and according to Matt Harris of APR: The Tuning Guy of APR. This car was capable of pumping out 320hp/375lbs-ft YIKES!!! As you guys are already aware of it is based on GT28RS Turbo with APR Custom Fuel Injectors, APR Exhaust, APR FMIC, and MAF. This car also had APR Stage III Brakes and other suspension work. When asked when this will be ready for the streets, I was told that for 5 speed SHOULD be ready in 2 months and for the 6 speed by the end of the summer (knock on woods@_@). Currently, they were tuning the car for the software as they were running the prototype program. Asked the approximate cost: $4,500 to $6,000. From the looks and speaking to Matt, the Stage III kit was 90% ready. More than anything the biggest hurdle was the R&D of the fuel injectors which they now have gotten cleared away.

For those people who were they were to shop, APR was running a promo similar to their Holidy Sale. Buy a program you get a program free and etc... From what I've heard alot of people took an advantage of the sale and APR even installed some mods such as Fuel Injectors.

Awaiting for the dyno numbers on the B6 Stage III, went around and checked out some more cars. 75% of cars were mostly VW's (GTI's namely) and the rest being Audis. Saw a GTI from TX that puts down 300 WHP to the ground!!! and not sure about the torque number (talk about Torque Steer and hopping like a rabbit!). I would say overall there were about 250 cars and about 400 people. It was rather a large event.

To much dismay, I missed the dyno of the Stage III from what I've heard, it ran 260hp/305lb-ft on the wheels on that run (Pretty Damn Impressive, I Say!). It was then lunch time and had some good ole' Southern BBQ. Afterwards, we were given a tour of the facility. Their facility was nice albeit somewhat ghetto but you gain appreciation and respect for their work when you ACTUALLY SEE the operation. APR reps actually showed us some of the ECU code modeling, hardware R&D, and some casting operation as well (Mad Kewl).

The next festivity was the prize give-away (VW Mug and other corny stuff, YEAY!) and presentation of new products by APR and Stasis (Alcon based Calipers ^_^). There were other vendors that were present at the event as well BBS, BFGoodrich Michelin, and Suncoast Motors. All the presentations were good and informative but more than anything presentations about B6 APR Stage III Kit and TT Stage III kits were awe-inspiring and just mind bongling (TT Stage III kit more so due to Crazy Plumbing). Then came the raffle for the Stage III kit and wouldn't you know it? A guy whom I've met the evening before from Chattanooga had won the Stage III kit. Funny thing is that he is the owner of a very well-tuned B5 S4 @_@. Oh well...

Overall, the APR BBQ was a very good learning experience. I plan to go down there next year and maybe pick up that Stage III kit, who knows. BTW, did I tell you it was a 9-Hour Drive and I put 1,100 miles on my car? Plus, someone from our club got a ticket... @_@ Hope you guys enjoyed the write-up ^_^

Cheers and happy Quattroing~~~ ^_^,
Oenophile

Default Exactly my point.....

That is why I hardly get ne thing out of audiworld anymore. It's all about show. No wonder we hardly get anymore useful posts, because people like you get discouraged after writing such a long post and get absolutely no feedback or comments out of it. Instead, someone who just purchased 5Gs worth of shyt gets all the "yo that's hype" replies .... Sorry to anyone who took offense to this, but I've been waiting for an opportunity like this to vent it out.
