I just did my 96, although there were a few differences and fewer connectors, the basics were the same. I used popsicle sticks to pry all the plastic tabs open at the same time while popping the two halves apart. Good write up.

For anyone who is trying to remove their cluster, the torx screwdriver size you need to remove the two torx screws is T25. My 7" Craftsman T25 worked perfectly. Also, if you have a telescopic magnetic pick-up tools, it will come in handy to remove the two screws out of the channels once they are unscrewed.

I just went through this process today. It was easy and I didn't even break off any plastic! ![Big Grin](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Here are a couple of notes that may help you out.
- The dirt/dust gets into the 2004 A4 clusters because they are heavily vented in the back for purposes of cooling the display electronics. They are not sealed units.
- You need two torx screwdriver sizes, T25 to remove the cluster from the dash and a T10 for removing the back cover of the cluster.
- Don't put the screws on anything you don't want dirty grease on!
- Place a clean rag on the top of your steering column and side levers to prevent scratching when removing ad reinstalling cluster.

- Its easy to remove the fuel and temp guages. Only one small black clip from the back of the cluster face is holding them in place.
