Default here

i've been meaning to work on it more, but i havent found the time. i want to sandwich insulation between this and another piece of sheet metal for the heatshield, and also need to work on some bends

basically its a cone filter, aluminum piping, rubber bend, connected to maf. the filter sits WAY down low away from the engine compartment and the engine and turbo will be red hot but the cai will be ambient, or ice cold at night if it gets really cold air flowing through it.

Default 12x18 from home depot. drops right in with NO CUTTING

if nothing else this "drop in heat shield" is 100x better than the thin, measly stock POS.

it doesnt matter what kind of intake u believe in, i think we can all agree that the stock heat shield is crap.

So when idling, there's no difference in temp between the airbox and cone?

Most speed shops sell peel & press heat shielding materials. It works.

"When stopped it rose up to 72 degrees hotter than ambient"

Default guess i'm trying to point out its a bit biased since>>

"Secondly, launching from a set of traffic lights in a car equipped with an exposed under hood cone intake could be giving the engine very hot inhalations" An airbox wouldn't be much better in this situation..

Default ...so the front duct gets ambient air temp while cones can get 72+ degrees hotter intake air.

Admittedly that could be worse case but it clearly points to cones as an unsuitable solution - particularly when they're on the same underhood side as a turbo.
