Default iPod Adapters Help...

After I got my car back from the stealership, I realized that in addition to my tailpipes no longer being level with each other that my cassette player will no longer play my iPod adapter. I had the cheapo Radio Shack tape thing, and all things considering, it worked teriffically. So I now need to stop procrastinating and hardwire it in to my stereo. I think that a lot of you have done this, so I would appreciate your help as I'm completly lost. I STFA here and on AZ and its like a toss up of what I should do.

First and foremost, if it matters, I have one of the black and white screened clicky wheel 20GB, idk what generation. And I know most adapters plug into the second CD changer in the radio (which is Symph II, if it matters). I'm not sure if I would rather mount it in the spot where it is currently, which is the little cubby by the armrest, or on one of those brackets that sits by the stereo. If you have your iPod hardwired, please post pics so I can start to figure out where I want mine. Other than that, I'm a huge noob on the subject. I know Blitzsafe and Denison makes them and I know a lot of guys buy it from enfigcarstereo.com. Other than that, please guide the way for me. TIA

Default do you want to be able to control the iPod via the radio buttons?

<center><img src="http://www.shipsound.com/images/usa_spec/dfvw_lg.jpg"></center><p>
Do you want to be able to have more than one audio input besides the iPod?

Do you want the input to only accept the iPod or other media devices?

Answering these questions will help limit your options. As far as where you have yours located you can run the wires to the cubby under the armest and either run the wire up from the side of the center console or drill a hole to allow it to come through the center console trim. I'm playing with the idea of adding two sets of RCA input jacks in that area for the adaptor I purchased.

I bought a used USA-SPEC VW/AUDI adaptor that supplies two independent audio inputs to the SymphonyII radio.

Default Answers..

It would be cool if I could control the iPod with the radio buttons but not imperative that it be able to do so.

I think I would only need one audio input, idk what others would be.

Thanks

Default so you don't want to protect for being able to hook up a portable dvd system in the car

or some other branded Audio device? The reason I ask is that all the adaptors that allow you to control your iPod through the radio come with a cable that plugs directly into the base of your iPod, thus an iPod is the only device you can plug into the audio input.

If that's the case then check the iPod car integration page on Apple's site.
<a href="http://www.apple.com/ipod/carintegration.html">iPod Your Car</a>
It lists most of the aftermarket and OEM suppliers. There are a few adaptor manufacturers not listed like USA-SPEC and some other UK brands.

You could've done it cheap. Guy on Ebay was clearing Icelinks for $15 including shipping.

Default Evolution of standard iPods...

<b>1st Generation</b>:

iPod (scroll wheel) models have a scroll wheel that physically turns. The controls (Play, Menu, Next, Previous) appear in a circle around the wheel. iPod (scroll wheel) models are referred to as first generation iPod models. They came in 5 GB and 10 GB models.

<b>2nd Generation</b>:

All iPod (touch wheel) models have a FireWire port cover. Scroll wheel models don't, and dock connector models don't have a FireWire port. The iPod (touch wheel) model controls look similar to the iPod (scroll wheel) but the touch wheel itself does not turn. iPod (touch wheel) models are considered second generation iPod models. They came in 10 GB and 20 GB models. I had the 20 GB, which was the heaviest and thickest iPod ever. The top of an iPod (touch wheel) model is shown here:

2. FireWire port
3. Headphones port
4. Hold switch

<b>3rd Generation</b>:

Newer iPod models like iPod (Click Wheel) and iPod mini also have a dock connector, but the iPod (dock connector) has a touch wheel instead of a Click Wheel and the four control buttons are above the touch wheel. iPod (dock connector models are referred to as third generation iPod models.

iPod (dock connector) models have a dock connector as illustrated here.

<b>4th Generation</b>:

iPod (Click Wheel) models have a Click Wheel like the iPod mini, but are larger and the hold switch is on the top-right side. iPod (Click Wheel) models have a monochrome display. iPod (Click Wheel) is referred to as the fourth generation iPod.

<b>5th Generation</b> (iPod Video):

The Fifth Generation iPod is a a hard drive-based iPod featuring a large, widescreen color display, a Click Wheel, and the capability of displaying photos and videos. Like iPod nano, it uses USB for syncing and comes in white and black.
