I just think that's where you put your car's name or your AW handle. Engraved, of course. 
Then again, it can be a very special feeling to find something unique in the marketplace that gives you the "oh, yeah" feeling. Enjoy.

Great looking frame! I earlier reported a custom frame place in San Jose. It's no longer there.
My brother was at the mall there on Stevens Creek today and found that the custom frame kiosk had pulled up stakes and presumably went elsewhere.
