Default I suggest the 16" snows/17" summers- That's what I have. You don't want to mount & unmount (m)

snow tires on your 17s every season- That would suck. It's far easier to change wheels than tires. Also, you want a smaller, narrower tire (hence, wheel) in winter, to dig into the snow with a smaller contact patch.

Default 16" and 17" snows come in the same widths (e.g., 205/50/17) ... makes no difference

except 16" snows look like crap.

Default well, if your oem rims are curbed or otherwise not perfect ...

then i'd turn those into winter rims and get somethign nice for summer, preferably in 18".

my mom runs on 17" snows, you can handle it ;-)

only one 19" snow tire on the market right now (nokian wr). pain in the *** to hunt down, but 18" wasn't gonna cut it this winter ;-)

Default My point was that he'd want his summers to be as wide as possible and his snows to be narrow, (m)

which sort of precludes using the same rim for both sets of tires.

Default why would one want to run the same rim?

rims get destroyed in the winter, and are best dedicated for the task -- nevermind that after a few years, all of the mounting/unmounting/balancing will have paid for the winter rims.

Default That was precisely my point in my first post- He was considering...

"snows and all seasons for the 17s," and I was advising against that for exactly the reason you mention- the cost and annoyance of un- and re-mounting tires each season.

Default right, but a much better answer is two sets of 17's ...

or something larger if he feels comfortable.

Default thanks...its just, well, my 16s are kinda beat up

and they look too small...even my friend's gf thinks so (i don't trust my own girl for an honest opinion about the car...she knows how much it means to me)

but yeah, that mounting and unmounting bit is a strong argument for getting 16" snows and a separate summer set

Default it would be ideal to have 2 sets of 17s,

but i don't have the money (and i'm kinda unsure about running larger rims in the summer as i drive in a lot of places with really ****ty pavement)
