Default Just got back from testing 0-60 and 1/4 mile in my car and ..

Just got back from testing 0-60 and 1/4 mile in my car and the results were not bad, however, not so imperssive.

My car is a 2003 A4 1.8T CVT 17" sport package wheels, and it's STOCK. The temperate was ~65F. Half tank of gas. 2 people in the car. And if anyone cares, elevation ~5500 and milage is 21,000 miles.

Best run (CVT mode "D")
0-60 = 8.2 secs
1/4m = 16.4 secs @ 87 miles

Worst run (Tiptronic mode)
0-60 = 9.3 (I think)
1/4m = 17.4 secs @ 85 miles

The average was 8.2~8.5 0-60 and 16.4~16.5 for 1/4 mile in CVT mode, and in tiptronic mode, it was the worst time ~9.3 0-60 and 17.4 for 1/4 mile.

I have a G-Tech pro, I know it's not 100% accurate but it's close. I always heard that cvt mode is faster but now I know that there is a difference. 1 second in 1/4 mile is like being chipped or not. I just wanted to know the 1/4 mile for my car. Hummm, 16.4 secs. ... My friend and I were in the car and it's stock, 15.2 secs only me and chipped ?

I think I'm gonna get the REVO 5 hour trail again and test the 0-60 and 1/4 mile after being chipped.

Do you guys think I can hit high 14s (14.8~14.9) with chip, exhaust, and 2nd IC ? Not enough ? Maybe light weight rims, 100 octan gas, and no spare tire if that would make a difference? Thoughts ?

Default The stock 17's weigh 51 lbs......

which is way too heavy. Get some lighter wheels and you will notice a big difference. The car will be much quicker off the line.

Default

51 lbs with the tire, not the wheel alone.

Default The stock 17's weigh 26 lbs...

which is still pretty heavy. You can drop 10 lbs. per corner with OZ SLs or SSR Comps and neither is terribly expensive. 40 lbs. of unsprung weight is equivalent to what? - 150-200 lbs. of spring weight? Someone want to chime in with the proper conversion?

Default Don't forget the BBS wheels, my 17x8 RCs weigh 17 lbs.....

My Bridgestone S03s weigh in at 25 lbs in a 235/40/17 which is 3 lbs lighter then a 235/45/17, for a total of 42 lbs. Even lighter are my Hoosiers at 16 lbs with the RCs, they weigh in at 33 lbs total.

Default I love BBS wheels but cost a little more green. Re: tires...

Toyo T1-S is also a good choice for good wet/dry performance in a lighter, mainsteam tire.

Default My 17" SL's weigh 41lbs w/ tires, you can feel the difference in acceleration, handling, ect.

The 35 offset really makes the tires line up perfectly w/ the wheel well.
