Default KO3 question

I know that the KO3 is a very small and limited turbo. Is it possible to take a KO3 and have it reinforced? Internal and external components?

Intention is not to increase output but to reinforce the turbo to ensure it's lifespan and efficiency of a current set-up.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Just get a K04 and be done with it.

Default I don't think "reinforcing" it will do anything...

Not sure what you mean by efficiency, but as far as lifespan, the main issue is proper lubrication (oil flow) and proper warm-up and cool-down routines. As long as you observe those, you should be OK.

So the cost of doing it would be greater than any benefit you would get

I may not have used the right words. But you know how there was the KO4 now there is the super KO4? I guess they take it apart and rebuild the internals, right? Could it be doen with a KO3?

Default I would guess that is the case...

Also, would you rather have a modified turbo with unknown tolerances, or a known quantity straight from the factory? The K04 is more robust than the K03 without having to be torn down and modified. It also has the ability to push more air, so it just makes sense.

The reason the super K04 exists is because it can push more air than a stock K04 while still being able to bolt right up to the stock manifold etc. Anything larger would require additional mods to fit and cost a lot more money.

Default the k03 you have already has some upgraded internals...

from a k04, so it's actually a k03 sport, as they call it. That's partly what gives you the 170hp as opposed to 150hp of the earlier model A4s.

But to tell you the truth, I did not hear anything about k04 vs super k04. What is the difference?

If it breaks, just buy a new one or rebuilt turbo from Charlie Brown in FL.
