L/100km or MPG readout is always fluctuating or reading either very high numbers at idle or sometime

zero while I'm driving. Whats up with this thing? Is the readout on the center screen in the gauge cluster reliable or is it all show?

great fuel economy. If you idle it will show an insanely great MPG, but off course you can't sustain it. If you average everything out you'll get your average or combined MPG.
There's also two screens, Trip 1 and Trip 2. Trip 1 will automatically reset itself when the car is turned off for an extended period of time and Trip 2 will never reset itself unless you reset it manually.
In both Trip screens there is DTE, MPG AVE, and MPG INSTANT.

When you're pulling away from a light, the engine is running much more inefficiently than while crusing at 110kph. I never use the instantaneous MPG...it is useless as far as I'm concerned (sorta like the BMW's dedicated gauge).
And when stopped, it should go to 0 because you are not moving, so you are going zero miles per gallon used...
I don't know how they'd express that in L/100km.
BTW, how can I switch from metric to US measurements?

I.e., my avg mpg display is 21mpg. Is this since I've bought the car? (I have never reset it.)
Doesn't it evenutally run out of memory or computational power (i.e, with 100,000 miles, that's a lot of data for the car's trip computer to store).

the life of the vehicle. All it needs to store is how many miles it's driven since the reset and what the current average is in order to calculate a new average. So, I don't see how it can run out of memory since it's only (probably) storing a couple of bytes of information.

Actually when you are stopped, it should in theory go to a stupidly high number (e.g. infinity) since you are burning gas, but not moving
dGas/dDistance (approaches infinity/undefined as dDistance approaches zero).
I can't stand that dial - but it does tell you what being a leadfoot is doing to your mileage.
