Default Larger Oil Filter

I hope someone can answer this. I wentinto a parts store today and saw 2 different part numbers for the oil filter. one was a fram 2870A (small) and the other 3957 (large). The larger one is for the 2005 model which i'm assuming is for the 2005 B6. Andyone know for sure if the books for 2005 have the new filters per the audi service bulletin? Or is the B7 filter that much larger normally and the parts store books just don't have the change for the bigger filter. (i guess i'm also asking if the B7 filter is the same...larger...B6 filter) Thanks in advance.

Default Simple answer..don't buy a Fram oil filter...

Buy a stock one from an Audi or VW dealership. They are different. In theory adding extra oil to the system is good..in practice..I dunno.

use an OEM filter, you can run into warranty issues with aftermarket filters.

Isn't the B7 completely different? Like a cartridge filter or something?

Oh God...never Fram...please! OEM, Mahle, or Mann. I always go with OEM though.

Default Mann sells this filter, its not for an audi

it x-ref's to like 15 other cars from older days. It was like $6-8 bucks.

i threw out the box unfortunately. i know i posted the part # on audizine tho.

my 1990 corrado g60 uses the same filter (they both fit) according to the mobil-1 oil filter chart. fwiw its pretty much the same 1.8 block lol.
