Is it true that 2002 1.8T's have leatherette while the 2004 1.8T's are real leather? Also, is the leather on the doors leather, or fake? I'm trying to decide if I can or should use leather cleaner on them, works great on the seats.

The backs and sides of the seats (and presumably the door inserts) are all leatherette.

Look at the standard features. Leatherette and cloth are the standard choices on either the 3.0 or the 1.8T.

Genuine Buffalino full-leather seat upholstery is listed as a stand-alone option for the 3.0 only. It was not an available option for the 1.8T in 2002.

MY2002 had either cloth or leatherette seats available at no cost.

MY2003 and MY2004 have cloth seats standard. The optional Premium package includes seats with leather seating surfaces; the rest of the seat is leatherette.

On all model years, the door leather is leatherette.

I ordered my A4 from the factory, and leather seats and power seats were most definitely options I was offered. It's possible however that my salesperson was misinformed...I'll have to check my order sheet.
