Default Instructions:

(from the factory service manual)

- Extend and angle the steering wheel/column all the way down.
- Remove the steering wheel
- Pull off the trim cover at the bottom of the instrument cluster (the black plastic piece between the buttons)
- Remove bolts and pull out cluster

Unfortunately, the steering wheel removal is a pain.

Default You don't have to remove the steering wheel, I did it this weekend

And I definitely worked it out without removing the wheel on my 2002. Watch the clips on the back, be gentle and use the little switch to pop them loose (also make not of the orientation of the connection when you disconnect).
