but I've been wondering. . . .what would happen if we mixed 2 quarts of 0W40 with 2 quarts of 15W50??
Would that be a good blend for extra hot summer use?

10w-30 has the least additives that improve viscosity, therefore it has the a greater oil/additive ratio verses 5w-30. For a summer brew in a chiped car, I'd mix 3 Mobil 1 15w-50s and one Mobil 1 10w-30. 50/50 would be ok too. M1 0w-40 should not really be mixed, it has a complex additive package to meet long-life specs that require it to stay in a narrow viscosity range throughout service. I thought the graph in that link was usefull, especially for blending.
