Default Massive 75mph blowout - carnage - Hartmann wheel survives!

I had a massive blowout on I75 South and stopped in time before the HOV exit ramp (where the bus jumped over you know).
Hit unknown object about a mile earlier, guess it deflated the tire. HERO (police officers who change tires n stuff) wouldn't let me go find the rest of the tire and
wheel liner lol. Hero is our free highway helpers. They make sure you don't die and have jacks and do the work for the most part.
(baby and wife in car). hero made me move the car an additional 100 feet with no tire remaining since i was not in a safe stopping
point for THEM to change the tire with their big lights and all

Anyhow I just wanted to give props to the fact the wheel sustained a light scratch when the wheel exited the rim, the bead did not
break off either side. This was 75mph blowout.

Gran Turismo East is one of the best shops in the south and found me a FK-452 matching the other 3 on the car and aligned the
car and checked for damage to suspension.

damage so far: wheel liner, evap return hose, some dents to fender, scratch on wheel fender door (all concentric)..

Anyways using the hunter Roadforce machine, the new tire and wheel came out with two small weights (the little square pads).
Matter of fact it had two on before (from the old tape i was looking at).

I gotta give props to Hartmann Wheels for selling a truly strong rim that did not bend (again they tested for runout/etc), and did
not crack, and is still in good condition. I had serious doubts after seeing the damage.

These dudes sell great product which held up under extreme conditions. Front right blowouts when you are arc'ing left long sweeping turn
are really scarey especially with family. The audi a4 handled superbly and slowed down most excellently given the condition.

I expected the worst taking the wheel and car to Gran Turiso east (best guys in atlanta), the worst was
the bill ($290 for new tire/balance mounted/4 wheel audi alignment/etc)

Hartmann 18" ET35 B5 RS4 reps FTW, if it was ebay i spose i could be buying a mismatching rim, or have busted cheap metal on the side of the freeway.

I should have ordered 5 to begin with (duh) but Hartman/Achtuning(Skyler) cool guys are selling me a 5th wheel to keep spare
and have matching wheels so i don't have to search before a holiday for a constrained product (tire).

Here's the pics x-post of the wreckage in the url link. Anyone got a wheel liner or part # and that hose (evap) the dealer doesn't even know what the evap return hose is. I'm gonna throw a EVAP leak soon i'm guessing. It's chewed but i put it back on. If you see anything else missing let me know!

Thank God, thank audi, thank hartman/achtuning for our safety.

Pics of the carnage to my a4

Default dunno looks the same on both sides? the pic was hard to take (dslr)

both sides look the same it might be the angle.

what do you think looks wrong?

the grand turismo east place said the alignment was not bad but was slightly out of spec (hasn't been done for 50K miles).

these guys are the best in atlanta and have all kinds of racing plaques and thank you's and there was panoz stuff all over the shop. they do all the drifters, atlanta road race cars, and slammed cars/racing setups.

I just assumed they'd notice any damage.

but i'm all ears.. nobody has touched/replaced the suspension in that respect as far as i know?

Ouch. Good lesson for all- to inspect tires after striking a road hazzard.

Default The ball stud insertion, is used to adjust the bump steer setting..

The bump steer setting is adjusted by varying the insertion distance of the ball stud in the clamp. On my A4, there is a gap between the upright and the boot, of about 5 mm.
REF: Bentley Manual.

The blow-out might have torn away the rubber grease boot?

Default Possible, the angle of the shot makes it hard to interpret. ...

The way it looks, I thought I saw the ball joint upside, down, but now, having looked at the pic again, it looks correct. So I edited the prior post.
