Mobil 1 15W-50?
I'm about to do a 50K service on my car. So far I'm looking to do the following:
Fuel Filter
Spark Plugs
Engine Air Filter
Cabin Air Filter
Brake Bleeding
Oil Change
Anything else?
Also, I track my other highly modified, air-cooled car a lot so I have a huge amount of Mobil 1 15W-50 full synthetic oil in my garage. Being that the Audi will be driven in hot conditions this summer, I'm thinking of using the Mobil 1 !15W-50 higher viscosity oil (I use 5W-40 synthetic in the winter). My question is, has anybody used this higher viscosity oil and is it VW approved for the 1.8T engine?
Thanks!

VW502 Approval's based on generic ACEA A3 spec, which 15w-50 meets except mpg & cold stipulation
So, don't use it in the cold nor expect top mpg. (1.8t NEEDS good cold flow, not really an issue in summer, but you want to warm-up slowly)
Frankly, as an owner of a substantial stash of motor oil, even if I already had it, I would NOT use it in my 1.8t because there are much better options out there. Look at the Mobil 1 HM line, built like a race oil, if that's the target. Other oils offer max mpg/hp/service duty, like German Syntec or M1 0w-40 SS / 5w-40 TDT.
I'd actually mix it down with some M1 5w/10w-30 about 50/50% to get a decent visc.
As far as M1 15w-50, great in appropriate specs, but not when oil temps are low or in an engine with low-tension rings. Older SL version are MUCH better then newer SM and (ugh) Extended Performance 15w-50 (non) Red Cap.
So, mix it or use something else. Mobil ok's mixing grades of Super-Syn.
