Mobil1 vs. Castrol Synthetic. Difference? A4 3.0
I've searched about 35 threads in this forum and the vast majority suggest that Mobil 1 5W-30 or 0W-30 is the way to go. Why would you say?
I can obtain Castrol 0W-30 Synthetic Oil, but the 0W-30 Mobil1 cannot be found here yet unfortunately.
My question is this: Is the concensus that Mobil 1 is the superior brand? Is it possibly a better marketing campaign? Are there really SIGNIFICANT differences between the brands?
Would you use Mobil1 5W-30 rather than the Castrol 0W-30 Synthetic?
Your educated opinions are appreciated.

0w40, not 10w40.
w40 protects the engine better at prolonged high operating temperatures, like high-speed highway cruising during hot summer months. However, I think it's more important for turbocharged engines, so not having a turbo, you probably can stick with w30. 0w30 will give you a slightly better fuel economy (compared to 10w30). 0w30 also protects the engine better during cold starts in extremely low winter temperatures.

well, maybe "controversy" is too strong of a word...
We, car fanatics, have a tendency to freak out about even the smallest details.
