Default More BMW saga and a contrast with Audi

Well, the 745i has been back to the shop for 9 days now. This time, the last upgrade they did for the iDrive and CAN glitches, freaked out the ECU, which in turn wacked out the coil packs (sound familiar, wacky coil packs?) So I called BMW on Thursday (now here is the Audi contrast) and they had a factory rep return my call within 10 minutes. He thanked me for being so patient with BMW and said he would begin the process to get me a new 2003 or 2004 (depending on avail.) exactly like my current 745i, without changing the terms of my lease agreement and paying for all fees involved. His satement was "it should appear to you that all we are doing it changing vin numbers and giving you a new car".

Default Yep... the 745i is going down in history as the worst automotive product lauch ever...

My understanding is that they are replacing most of the cars out there. Very serious problems across the board with that car.

Its also my understanding that the reason why they are so on-top-of-it is because they are doing everything possible to prevent these cars from being re-titled as *lemons*. Apparently, BMWNA plans to fix these cars, and sell them as used eventually.

BMWNA must be losing money hand-over-fist with this.

On the flipside, I recently had a 2002 Mini Cooper S, and ended up selling it on ebay because it was riddled with problems, and the customer service was pathetic. I was so upset with them, I figured the best way to get out of it was to simply sell it before the demand dropped sharply. Which it did.

I sometimes browse the 745i forum over on Roadfly.com to read all the angry posts from folks who bought that car. I know for a fact that BMWNA has folks on-staff that their sole purpose is to monitor the forums. As far as I know, Audi does not do it.

Default Thats a long list... (mini cooper "s" btw...)

3 coolant tank failures & a mega mess in the engine compartment

1 waterpump failure

Constant burning smell

Creaking seats (not fixable)

Windsheild moulding flew off and dented roof

Windshield leaked, stained headliner

Interior painted items flaking

Cracked engine mount

Solid black roof buckled/creased in the sun

Dealer damaged intercooler

Rattles/creaks everywhere

Paint defects (dirt in paint)

Silver paint was blotchy

Exhaust tip fell off

rubber pedal covers would not stay on, they would fall off and roll around under foot.

Doors did not align to the body well

and thats just off the top of my head... that car was such a POS! there were more, and I just can think of them all.
