Default Idea...

Can you use some pieces of wire to bridge from one connector to the other? Then you could test and experiment without cutting or breaking the connectors.

Default I thought of that but <more>

well I would need like 8-10 microclip jumper wires like the kind used to tap fine wires for multimeters..and well I have 2 but I dont have 10 and they are pricey.

there is another way which is to buy a harness that breaks up the 3 components of that maine OEM harness..
but to be honest I just reviewed the pins and they all seem to be okay in terms of placement..so either the unit can not be controlled as blau suggested OR the CAN pins need to be on before the HU will direct power or commands to the blau..
either way this is beginning to seem like WAY more trouble than its worth.
Im thinking I might return my blau and get an ipod with RF accessory and just send the signal through an FM modulator.. I know it sucks but what can I do..I have XM and its tieing up the changer port even if I did get this blau thing worked out.

other choice is phatnoise but why would I pay $600 + install for 20GB of mp3 storage when I can for $400 get 40GB on the Ipod and use it outside the car as well.. makes no sense.

Default Alright, I'm done... for now...

Well, I got the pins out of the Blau harness and reset in the stock harness. The bottom line is that it doesn't work. I checked and re-checked everything and mine just didn't do anything. I'll post some more details tomorrow, but I wanted to let everyone know that mine does not appear to be compatible.

Anyone else have any luck?

Take care,
Bug

Default sorry to hear that..

yeah it seems hopeless.. Im very prone to either forgetting about the mp3 thing in the car for now and spending the money on a chip or buying an ipod that I can use outside of the car and use that.
to be honest I really dont wanna go through more wiring hassles so if I get an ipod Im very tempted to just go the FM route especially since my XM is using the changer port.. I know it will sound less than perfect but hey its hassle free.

shaun does your's even power up ? the green light on the mdp I mean.. mine wouldnt even turn on??

Default yup. pretty much. maybe i can find a way to make the sucker work, except

just went to the dealer to unlock my radio and asked them to show me how to pull the radio and it looks like the top right notch is stuck. the dealer has to take the dash apart to fix it. bah! we'll see.

Not a Audi owner but found this thread in searching for a working solution with the MDP-01 and I thought I would offer my insight to the issue from what I have discovered as I am approaching it from a more technical perspective.

At http://mymustang.home.mchsi.com I have pictures of the MDP-01 out of it's case.

The MDP-01 does not have any MP3 decoding ability but rather is a interface between the Microdrive storage and the CAN interface, while the device may attach to the CD changer port on Blaupunkt Funline and Skyline head units, it utilizes the CAN buss to basicly transfer MP3 file data to a head unit which can decode and play the files.

The MDP-01 is fairly simple with a single controller chip (MC912D60) which is primarly used to interface with the ISO CAN bus, short of a few other chips ther isn't much to the actual MDP-01 unit; there is a 6 pin header which I believe is a CAN bus interface port.

My hope is get the MDP-01 to work with a Ford Focus Blaupunkt head unit which already has the ablity to decode and play MP3 files as it has the correct ISO plugs in the back of the unit.

What's inside a MDP-01

Thanks very much for your insight. I guess it's time to close the book on this one.

Simply put it was cheap because it was practically useless.
