Default also the service indicator appears after a few hundred miles of driving

so it gives you miles left to service... so if it came up after a few hundred miles, it wont say 10K obviously.

Default what is the computer saying right now? ....

Is it saying service NOW or service in 1500 miles or X days?

In either case, the little service reminder is not just a plain 10K mile countdown. It also takes into account time and RPMS (i.e. how hard you drive the car). So, based on this, the computer can tell you to change oil sooner or later than 10K miles.

For basic warranty/maintenance purposes, I'd stick to the 10K mile/1 year schedule, whichever comes first.

Of course, there are those of us who change their oil every 5K miles, but that's not "mandatory".

Default well, there you go. If "SERVICE" just means oil change, dealer will reset it for you when you come..

in for your 10K maintenance.
