Default My 1.8T took itself to 7500+ RPM tonight...WTF!? (long)

Driving hom tonight and I shift from 2nd into neutral on my way to 3rd when the RPM's continue to climb...as if I kept my foot on the gas, but I didn't. I shift into 3rd, let the clutch out and the f*cker takes off like a bat outta hell...and I'm not touching the gas!!! I stomp the gas...no help...slam the clutch to the floor (starting to panic now)...nothing. I watch the tach hit at least 7500 RPM and I swear it'll keep going till the pistons shoot through the hood so I turn the key off, kill the engine and coast. Hit both pedals again, start it up and it immediately begins to freely rev...kill it again and coast to a stop. I sit there for a min trying to figure out WTF to do...give it one more shot and it revs to about 5k and then settles down to idle. No warning lights or anything and it drove the last 3 miles without a problem. Anyone have any insight? I have no mods...only 650 miles total.

Default My guess is that your throttle position sensor is ****ed up....

or some related component (ie fuse, wire, ecu, etc)...take it to a dealer or a vag-com and check for fault codes

Default My accelerator pedal got stuck once on the floor mat because I didn't secure it correctly (m)

with the pegs on the floor. I let my foot off the gas and the car kept on speeding up. Luckly I was able to wedge my foot under the pedal and pull up to get it unstuck. Quite a scary moment. I admit my stupidity to all.
