Default My ABS & ESP decided to light up for me while I was driving...

very strange, made a left turn and the lights came on. I was stuck in traffic anyways so I turned off the car and turned it back on, went away after the initial system check then came back.

I drove around till I got to my destination, lit the entire way. Parked the car and had to run an errand, about 5-10 minutes. Came back out, started her up and no more, it didn't come back. Went to different places at night so did more driving, nothing.

Anyone shed some light on this? I haven't had time to check with the vag-com if any codes were stored yet. When I saw the light, I was saying to myself, NOOOOOO, I'm going to Canada in two days and need the car =P

Default STFA, there's a few others that have experienced this including myself,

just last week it was happening daily, vag-ed the car, clear the code:
1 Fault Found:
00526 - Brake Light Switch-F
27-00 - Implausible Signal

The code hasn't returned, and the lights haven't come back on since Sunday. A fellow AWer sent me a brake switch, if the light comes back on, I'm just going to change it.

Default I did search while I was on the road with my Treo =P Found lots of different answers

so looked like it could be a number of things. Just strange that it went away without me clearing the code (if there is one stored).

The code is still stored even if your lights are not showing up. Yes, it's a bit strange.

Default Hmmm, interesting. I don't remember being any bumps or anything that could have jarred

a sensor or connection loose on that turn.

I'll let ya know what I find out tonight.

Mine did that and very soon after a CP went out, lights didn't come back after replacing the CP.

Default I've had this happen twice last winter. It also threw the code QuattroFan02 is referring to.

We've cleared the fault and it hasn't returned since then.

Search also reveals that it might be a symptom is a bad MAF.

Log channel 002 in 3rd gear to see if MAF reading are where they should be.

From bhvrdr's vag-com write up:

"Channel 2: Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF)

This channel measures the grams per second or airflow taken into account by the MAF sensor. Input I have collected from tuners suggest that this is not a direct measure and depends on other sensors, so programming may be able to affect the g/s independent of changes to actual airflow. Nevertheless, while this may not be a reading that can completely state the airflow your car is taking in, it can provide a good estimate. This is a great log to look at if you suspect a common failure, the dying MAF sensor. On a chipped car one would expect MAF numbers to increase linearly as the car approaches redline. Your highest numbers will be seen at or near redline and are likely to be in the neighborhood of 160-180 g/s. Low numbers at redline such as 120 g/s are a good indicator your MAF is on the way out. Codes may not be thrown at this point. Terribly low or NO readings means she is dead."

Default Thanks for the info...I'll try to do some logging tonight but probably won't have time.

BTW, when do you want to meet up this weekend?
