Step on the gas past the kickdown point and if it revs to 5900 rpm and stays there it's a CVT.

Default Maybe a CVT owner can chime in, but I think what you're feeling is a programmed effect...

In it's purest form, if you stomp on the pedal, a CVT should jump to the optimal power range and stay there until you let off the gas. I think Audi figured that people might not like/understand that behavior, so they programmed their CVT to behave a little more like a normal automatic (IE simulated gear changes). In reality, you and I know that there are no gears...

Default I'll try the kickdown thing tonight

when I labor it back over the "mountian" (1000 feet doesn't really count IMO).

Default Hit a soft spot did you? I have.....

2004 A4 Avant 1.8T FWD CVT stock, no mods (it's brand new) and it's pretty good on gas too, and yes you cannot feel the gear changes,I still blame that for my speeding ticket.. If you floor the gas, it revs up to about 5000 and stays there.
