Default I made it to NYC, but was nervous every time I started the car...
I thought it would blow up again. From the general concensus, it seems that this isn't a mechanical/electrical problem but caused by the old battery. I'm just super paranoid now... but there has been no other sign of any other problem.

It wont explode again, like you said it was the old battery, it's a rare event regardless.
