"Unpleasant "musty" odor from Heating and Ventilation system.
Odor mainly occurs after vehicle has been sitting (unused) at least 5 hours and within 20 to 60 seconds after vehicle is first started.
This odor may be caused by residual condensate in and around evaporator mixing with airborne pollutants. This forms the growth of bacteria and or fungi (mold)."
Your local auto parts store will sell products to remove the odors. Basically you spray it into the vents and cabin air intake, etc to remove the bacteria and mold. They'll have directions on the bottle.

The one in my Bentley does at least. I tried to print it to PDF for you guys, and it crashed on me, as usual.
TSB is 87-06-03. It requires Aircomatic II Ultrasonic Climate System Cleaner (VAS 6189A), and Airco-Clean Ultrasonic Air Conditioning Treatment (VAS 6189/1). I don't think you'll be applying this one at home, kids.
There is an older TSB on this that I only have available in French, 85-05-01, which requires an paint gun for an air compressor, and Airsept cleaner, to spray into the system. If you can find this one in English it may shed some light on what you can do to fix the problem.
