Too much work for them to list all the cars, and their prices, with no real commitment from the shopper.

I found most dealers (say 70%) responded to me with a price over the phone ... with a little cajoling. But, I was ready to buy on the day I contacted them and I knew what I wanted. You're probably right that a busy dealer will ignore a fax, e-mail or phone call -- maybe last month was slow for dealers in LA.

I got my 02 1.8T CVT for $100 over invoice this past August. Plus they gave me a sweet deal on my trade-in ($3000 for an 11 yr old Honda Civic worth $1000).
