Default My exhuast header is broken. =(

Started as a crack is on runner #4 and upon removal the flange broke off. The crack isn't on the weld, it is above it.

Bob has built a lot of headers and this is the first one he has even seen fail like this, but it is also the only one he has built that has been ceramic coated.

Not exactly sure how hot the stainless steel had to get to become that brittle but on close examination there were fine cracks showing on a couple of the other runners and at the collector seams.

A new header is being built and this time we are leaving it uncoated.

Default A turbo support bracket was planned to be made

but Bob had to leave to the US to supervise a race team for the Rolex 24 in Ohio, so I had to wait for him to get back before it could be fabricated and installed.

The support bracket will be installed this time but they do not think that the lack of one caused the cracks that are showing on the header.

Default Maybe heat build up from me hammering away at the turbo all the time =)

I'm trying to get the videos we took of the manifold during dyno day and post them up.

When you see how hot it got you too would wonder how it survives such punishment.

Default Unlikely since my AFR shows I was running rich when under boost

and I assume a rich condition = lower EGT

Default I see a PN on the flange...

is your flange made of cast iron (like the stock one)?
Perhaps trying to mate cast iron with stainless steel is what caused the weakness?
