My high mileage B6 3L diary

Hi friends,
My wife and I are expecting a baby, hence I just sold my 1984 911 to get a nice 2003 A4 Avant 3L. I have always been a car person and with this one, I am sure I'll be able to have something that is both practical and nice to own
I am opening this thread to update with my issues, projects and feedback about owning a high mileage B6 (yes, it has 136k miles). To be fair, it is low mileage compare to the 911 I just sold, 240k miles and still running strong!
Here are the first pictures, these are the ones from the PO, I have not had time to take any. It still looks pretty nice but it has a few issues (rear bumper has been abused, the lower side of the driver door is damaged, it has two dents that could be fixed with PDR and the wheels have some curb rash).
In terms of service, timing belt was done two years ago and clutch was changed recently, that is good![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
First steps:
1/ Taking it to a mechanic tomorrow to have it properly inspected
2/ Shampoo + clay bar on Saturday to start the process of making it look even better
Cheers,

Welcome, but I would have just added the Avant to the fleet. I have 3 boys, 1 in college and 2 in high school and still have my 2 seat 84 300ZX Anniversary Turbo. My daily driver now with 162K on the clock. Yeah, I'm the old guy that drives the old sports car ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Anyway, I found a pair of grilles for my now dead 02 on craigslist from a local individual. The other source is shokan.com or maybe a local junk yard, although I have little luck at junk yards.

Thanks for the parts recommendation, I will check it out!
Lyleswk, the real issue here is parking. Keeping the 911 in San Francisco close to where I live would have been an extra $250/mo which nay not be the best with the coming baby![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Here are some pictures I took after the first carwash. I shampooed it with Meguiar's gold class and gave it a clay bar treatment and a quick coat of step 3 wax. The paint is in good condition, no big surprise there. I noticed that the roof bars need some polishing (metal polish should be ok) and I will definitely have to do something for the wheels. They are super dirty inside and they do have some serious curb rash... I'll decide what to do when they are clean![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Ah, San Francisco. Yeah parking is a huge consideration. I haven't ever had that problem. I have had garages large enough for 3 cars for about 15 years, 10 years here in Fort Worth and 5 years in Tehachapi, Ca.
